Long term project for VISTULA
2017-2021
Kenya
Journey Through the Savannah is a volunteer project whose main goal is to improve the living conditions and education of children in Western Kenya. Currently, the initiative is carried out as part of the charity work of the Harambee Foundation. So far, we have carried out two volunteer work at the Vision Academy school in the village of Ololulunga, during which, among others:
- we built a football and volleyball court for children;
- we installed doors and windows in a local school;
- we installed the electrical installation and lighting of the school;
- we put showers;
- we renovated the canteen;
- we built a makeshift cinema with a projector for children.
We are currently waiting for time when pandemic will allowed us to continue volunteering, during which we will develop our activities. We plan to further expand the infrastructure, improve educational conditions and animate the local community of Kenyan children.
How did it start?
In May 2017, as part of Wiktor diploma thesis for studies, we made a documentary in Kenya, which tells about siblings from a poor Masai family, about their adversities and difficulties in obtaining education. The reality we met on the spot moved us so much that our film aspirations turned into a project to help Kenyan children. After returning to the country, we contacted the Harambee Polska foundation and with its help, in September 2018 we flew to Africa with our first volunteering.
